PRAY & enjoy 2022

a commitment to ENJOY god TOGETHER by
PRAYING THE BIBLE

God invites us to pour our hearts out to him. Yet meeting God in prayer can be one of the hardest invitations to accept and keep. Pray & Enjoy is aimed at providing a plan and skill to develop a vibrant life of prayer.

WHY PRAY THE BIBLE?

ordinary PRAYER brings change over time

Prayer is a discipline, with benefits that increase over time. Some days, you sit down, pray, and walk away feeling refreshed! It can be so great. But most days, things feel pretty ordinary. Keep pressing in on the ordinary days. Like most good disciplines (e.g., eating healthy, working out, brushing your teeth), you may see marginal impact in the moment but seismic changes over time. Keep praying, ask God to help you, and after a few weeks and or months, you'll be surprised at how much you enjoy God.

PRAYING THE BIBLE KEEPS PRAYER FRESH AND GOD-SHAPED

Prayer can often feel like a lifeless routine of saying the same things over and over again.

Praying the Bible uses a passage of scripture to inform our prayers. As the passage changes, so does the content of our prayer.

god's people are there to encourage you

Share what you're praying with others. Take advantage of conversations at home with your family, in your Gospel Community or on Sunday morning. If you're still looking for someone to connect with, reach out to Pastor Josh Mathews

HOW TO PRAY THE BIBLE?

plan a time

Find a time to pray. Ideally, it would be the same time each day of the week. For many, it's first thing in the morning (but it doesn't have to be!). Combine it with Bible reading to stack great spiritual disciplines.

Find the bible passage

Each week of the year will have a dedicated passage that we'll pray together. Use the bookmark as reference.

Pray a line

Go through the passage, line by line, and talk to God about whatever comes to mind. Don't be overly concerned about studying the passage. If you have people or things to pray for, allow the line to inform/inspire your prayer.

Move to the next line/end

Once you prayed a line, move on to the next until you're done praying or your time is up.

WHY ARE WE PRAYING TOGETHER IN 2022?

Prayer is one of the core habits (a.k.a. spiritual disciplines) that help us enjoy God and live for him. As a church, we want to grow in our dependence on God through prayer, to strengthen the spiritual muscle of prayer, both individually and as a church family. Our hope is that praying the Bible together in 2022 will catalyze or personal life of prayer while also building bonds of unity with one another.

ARE THERE ANY RECOMMENDED RESOURCES FOR PRAYING THE BIBLE?

Yes! The best resource to help you pray the Bible is Donald Whitney's book, Praying the Bible.

We also recommend Nancy Guthrie's book, What Every Child Should Know About Prayer.
