Living Water, Again

BIBLE PASSAGE FOR THIS SERMON
Rivers of Living Water 37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Division Among the People 40 When they heard these words, some of the people said, This really is the Prophet. 41 Others said, This is the Christ. But some said, Is the Christ to come from Galilee? 42 Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was? 43 So there was a division among the people over him. 44 Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. 45 The officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why did you not bring him? 46 The officers answered, No one ever spoke like this man!
Sermon Application Questions – 3/8/20
- How have you thought about the Holy Spirits role in your life up to this point? Has your understanding of the Spirits presence been tied more to subjective experience or to the promise of his objective presence and work as Jesus describes it?
- When you hear Jesus use that image of rivers of living water flowing from your heart how do you respond? What does that suggest your heart might be like without the Spirit? What does it make you want?
- Look up and read Isaiah 44:3, Isa. 58:11, Ezekiel 36:24-25, and Joel 2:28-29. How would verses like these have affected God’s people prior to Jesus coming?
- If you are a Christian you have the Holy Spirit in you. After hearing and considering Jesus words in John 7:37-38 how do you think now about the Spirits role in your life now? How does what Jesus said make you want to respond to the Spirit’s presence. Be as specific as you can be.
Mike Bullmore is preaching today from John 7:37-46 in a sermon he has titled, “Living Water, Again.”
